The government have been transferring ksh 1.36 billion every month since May to over 340,000 households .

The first beneficiaries of the government programme were vulnerable communities in the counties of Nairobi ,Mombasa, Kilifi and Kwale where lockdown was declared.

Each household bread winner received ksh 1,000 on a weekly basis transforming to ksh 4,000 each month.

The money was transferred through Mpesa directly to the beneficiaries accounts by the Interior ministry.

Before the programme comes to an end, there are other counties set to benefit from this apart from the initial beneficiaries - Kilifi, Mombasa, Nairobi and Kwale. A total of over 500,000 households are targeted.

There already have been claims that the authorities to the ground including chiefs and sub-chiefs are only registering relatives and friends as beneficiaries to the program
