What is Chime? Chime is a financial technology company which makes online banking simple and cheap by providing members with free overdrafts, early salaries, nil monthly ledger fees and credit building. 

Who can Join Chime

Chime is currently available to social security number holders who are above the age of 18 years and are residents or citizens of the United States (US).

How to Join Chime

You can start using chime by registering on Chime Website or download chime app from Google play store or Apple app store. You can then create your account and link your checking account for more benefits including fee free overdrafts.

Chime gives SpotMe overdraft as a loan service to members. This apply to all members who qualify. It can be up to $200 fee free money.


Chime Accounts 

At the moment chime offers four account types. These are ;

  • Checking Account 
  • Credit Builder Account / Spending Account 
  • Savings Account 
With a chime checking account, a member can get his or her salary up to 2 days earlier. With is account a member is also issued with a chime card.

How Does Chime Credit Builder Works

With a Credit Builder account also known as a spending account, a member can increase his or her credit score by up to 30 points. Account holders are issued with a chime credit builder card.

With a chime credit builder customers can qualify for SpotMe cash up to $200 which is some form of overdraft to help members make payments even with low account balances. 

 Whenever one pays back spotme cash loan,chime notifies credit bureaus like TransUnion, Equifax or Experian about the customer's good deeds. This way, Credit Bureaus increase the customer's credit score for pay loans promptly. 

With a Chime Savings account a member can earn an Annual Percentage Yield of 0.5% on their savings. 

What Bank Is Chime?

Chime is not a bank. The company however uses banks ,members of FDIC to offer their services. 

What Bank Does Chime Use

Chime uses two banks. These lenders are mem6of FDIC and they are;
  • The Bancorp Bank
  • Stride Bank N.A
Chime Card services are also provided by the above two banks after being granted permission by Visa US.

Is Chime FDIC insured?

All chime funds are insured by FDIC up to $250,000 per member.

Chime Cards

The company has two types of cards;
  • Chime debt card 
  • Chime Credit card - also called chime credit builder card
With these cards, members can transact from many Visa card accepting stores ans withdraw cash from over 60,000 visa branded ATMs. 

Although it can be a bit expensive, chime card holders can still withdraw cash from out of the network ATMs around the world.

What is Catch to Chime

Chime makes money, but how? Many of the services are for free including free overdrafts, free spotme cash, free early salaries and zero monthly fees.

Chime however, make money still by getting some commission from the chime cards members use.
