Safaricom has announced new M-Pesa charges effective January 1st ,2021. This follows after the Central brought to an end the free Mpesa transactions for amounts below kes 1000 since March.
MPesa have over 26 million customers and out of these, over 90 percent are expected to benefit from the new reduced charges that will be imposed on MPesa.
Charges on sending money via Mpesa will be reduced by 45 percent for transactions above ksh 100. Transactions below kes 100 will remain free.
As per the new charges, starting from 1st January 2021, sending any amount between kes 101 and kes 500 will only cost kes 6 instead of the current kes 11. In addition, sending between kes 1501 and kes 2500 via Mpesa will cost kes 32 instead of the current kes 41.
Safaricom added that these new reduced Mpesa charges will apply to even Pochi La Biashara and Lipa Na Mpesa (Till Number) services.
