Safaricom PLC has announced giving smartphones on credit to customers at a cost of sh 20 a day starting from tomorrow ,Tuesday.

The initiative is dubbed Lipa Mdogo Mdogo and is meant to enable feature phone users ,2G and also 3 G smartphone users migrate to using 4G enabled smartphones.

The telco is going to provide over 1 million 4G internet enabled handsets in partnership with Google.

Safaricom has seen a decline in profits from voice. For that reason the telco is now working on ways to get more profits from internet data usage hence the launch of this initiative.

“Cost of devices should no longer be an impediment. We are launching an innovative device financing plan dubbed Lipa Mdogo Mdogo that will give customers still using feature phones an opportunity to own a 4G- enabled device by paying only Sh20 a day,” said Safaricom chief executive Peter Ndegwa

To benefit from this new offer, one should visit the nearest  Safaricom shop and ask for the Lipa Mdogo Mdogo smartphones.

A customer will pay as low as ksh 20 per day for as long as one year. The daily pay however will be a bit higher if the customer chooses an expensive smartphone.
